46th Annual National Convention of the Psychological Association of the Philippine

The 46th Annual National Convention of the Psychological Association of the Philippines will be in
Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental on August 13-15, 2009. The convention is co-sponsored by Silliman
University and has the theme Character Strengths of the Filipino: A Positive Response to Current
Challenges.

This year’s convention will feature the Keynote Address of Dr. Betty Cernol-McCann (United Board for
Christian Higher Education in Asia, Hong Kong), a distinguished social psychologist and educator,
awarded Outstanding Psychologist during PAP’s 2002 convention. The annual meeting will also
feature plenary lectures clustered into three areas: courage and justice, humanity and temperance,
and wisdom and knowledge. Plenary speakers include Ma. Carmen Alcuaz-Reyes (Center for
Leadership & Change, Inc), Prof. Rosalea Araneta-De Leon (West Visayas State University), Dr. Allan
Bernardo (De La Salle University), Dr. Frederic Boholst (Clinical and Organizational Psychologist), Dr.
Mila Lagrosa (Asian Institute of Management), and Prof. Ma. Angeles LapeƱa (De La Salle University).
There will be over 150 research paper presentations by psychologists from different universities and
organizations in the country organized in thematic sessions. Updates will also be given on the ongoing
certification of psychologists and the psychology bill now at the Senate.

Registration, the opening program, and the first plenary will be at the Luce Auditorium 9-12 noon on
Thursday, August 13. The rest of the convention will be at the Bethel Guest House. Some 300
psychologists are expected to attend. Online pre-registration may be done through www.pap.org.ph.
